Hello, I'm Jacqui

I believe that understanding yourself is the key to lasting positive change.

My approach is warm, empathetic and holistic, and it is person centred. I support you to explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences at your own pace, and to discover your own strengths and values. My aim is to help you reach your goals and live a healthier, more fulfilling life.

I am a fully qualified counsellor and psychotherapist, and a fully accredited member of the IACP, committed to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism. I offer a supportive, non judgmental space for adults and students from my practice at Dockgate on Merchants Road in Galway.

Reaching out can feel daunting, and that is completely understandable. No one has to face things alone, and you do not need to have it all worked out before we begin.

How I work

There is no single approach that suits everyone, so I work in a flexible way and shape our sessions around you.

A warm, person centred approach

I work with you, not on you. Together we explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences, so you can discover your own strengths and values. I draw on a number of therapies and bring together whatever is most helpful for you.

  • Person Centred
  • CBT
  • Humanistic
  • Psychodynamic
  • Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Practical tools

With my training in CBT, I can help you notice and change unhelpful thought patterns, and give you practical tools for growth and wellbeing.

Short term or longer term

Some people want focused work on one thing, and others want more time to explore. We shape it around you, and we can change course as we go.

Face to face or online

We can meet in person in Galway, or online if that suits you better.

What I can help with

You are welcome to come with something specific, or with a feeling you cannot quite name.

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Self harm
  • Trauma
  • Childhood trauma
  • PTSD
  • Sexual abuse
  • Bereavement
  • Relationship difficulties
  • LGBTQ+ concerns
  • Psychosexual issues
  • Workplace issues
  • Personal development

Trauma and abuse

I have specific training in working with complex trauma and sexual abuse. We go at a pace that feels safe for you.

Low mood, worry and self harm

You can talk about any of it here without being judged, and we can look for steadier ground together.

Relationships and identity

An open, respectful space for relationship difficulties, LGBTQ+ concerns and psychosexual issues.

Life, loss and growth

Grief, pressure at work, or simply wanting to understand yourself better and grow.

And whatever has brought you here.

What to expect

Starting counselling can feel like a big step. Here is how it usually begins.

  1. Reach out

Get in touch by phone, email or the form below, and we will arrange a first session at a time that suits you.

  2. Get to know each other

We will meet, you can tell me as much or as little as you like, and together we will agree what you would like from counselling.

  3. Work together

We work short term or longer term, whichever feels right, and always at your own pace.
